POETRY EVENING OF KOSTA KOSOVAC AT THE BELGRADE FORTRESS

As part of the European Heritage Days, on 16 September 2021, at the Nebojša Tower, an evening of poetry by the young and promising poet Kosta Kosovac was held, who presented his first collection of poems entitled Sweaters for the Stones, which was published by the Serbian Literary Association and for which he recently received the Matić’s Scarf award (given to the best young writer under 27).

Last night, Kosta Kosovac presented his 75 songs, and himself, to the public.

“You have to have thoughts to be able to work with words. My creativity has matured over the years and only later did the words that were in me grow into poetry,” said Kosta Kosovac at the promotion of his book.

For over two hours, Kosta honestly answered various questions and revealed his thoughts and views on the world. Those present listened in disbelief because it appeared that a person out of time was standing in front of them, and not a 24-year-old man. Emotions don’t know years. Tears sparkled in the eyes of some visitors when Slađana Bušić evoked the verses of her friend Kosta in an inspiring way. And in a spontaneous atmosphere, at the request of those present, they ended the evening by reading a couple of songs together.

Kosta told tales of his childhood and unusual word games he used to devise, revealed the names of his favourite poets, and said how he occasionally took a rose to Branko Miljković’s grave, he maturely and thoughtfully presented his view of the world and the behaviour of people in it. Still, an enigma remained as to whether talent alone is enough to become such an exceptional poet at a young age, or whether the cosmos is the one sending timeless values to a person who knows how to transform them into words.

One thing is for sure – the Belgrade Fortress had the great pleasure of hosting this talented poet, and the belief of all those present is that Kosta has a brilliant and great poetic career ahead of him.
