Thanks to the engagement of PE Belgrade Fortress, most of the graffiti that appeared at several places in the complex the night before was removed on Friday morning.
“After the investigation was completed, PE Belgrade Fortress immediately organized the removal of the graffiti, and with great help from colleagues from the PUC Gradska čistoća, the graffiti was quickly removed from the Inner and Outer Stambol Gate,” said the General Manager of PE Belgrade Fortress, Marija Reljić.
Due to the specific characteristics of the monuments and the materials used for their cleaning, the removal of graffiti from the Victor Monument and the Damad Ali Pasha Turbe was taken over by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Belgrade, which removed the remaining graffiti on Saturday morning.
Following the inscription of the Star of David on cultural monuments at the Belgrade Fortress, a letter of support was sent to PE Belgrade Fortress by the Jewish Community of Belgrade, condemning this act of vandalism, and distancing themselves from this event.
PE Belgrade Fortress expressed its gratitude to the Jewish community for their support, expressing the belief that all concerned citizens are aware that this act was perpetrated by an individual who cannot be brought into connection with the entire Jewish Community of Belgrade.
