By joint engagement of PE Belgrade Fortress and PUC Gradska čistoća, graffiti was removed from the Tomb of National Heroes – once again targeted by hooligans.
The Tomb of National Heroes was erected in 1948, and by the Decision of the Assembly of the City of Belgrade, it was declared a cultural monument in 1983. The busts of Đura Đaković (1886–1929), Ivan Milutinović (1901–1944) and Ivo Lola Ribar (1916–1943) are the work of the sculptor Stevan Bodnarov and date back to 1949. In 1957, Moša Pijade (1890-1957) was also buried at this spot, and his bust is the work of sculptor Slavoljub Stanković.
The Tomb of National Heroes is one of the many monuments in the area of the Belgrade Fortress that preserve the memory of the long and turbulent history of our city, which we must all nurture together. PE Belgrade Fortress once again appeals to all visitors not to desecrate cultural monuments and not to destroy the cultural heritage of the Belgrade Fortress and the City of Belgrade.
