Blog

During the “Days of Belgrade” event, on Saturday, April 16, 2022, the admission into the four buildings at the Belgrade Fortress will be free of charge. Any interested visitors will be able to visit the Roman Well, Nebojša Tower, Military Bunker and Great Gunpowder Warehouse from 11 am to 7 pm.

The Roman Well was built between 1717 and 1739 during the Baroque Austrian reconstruction of the Belgrade Fortress. The Well is 60 meters deep and almost three and a half meters wide.
Nebojša Tower, built in the 15th century as a defense tower during the Ottoman rule, became the best known dungeon and dark symbol of Belgrade. Since 2011 it has been a modern exhibition space where visitors may get familiar with a part of the Serbian and Greek history with the help of audio-visual effects.
The Military Bunker in the Upper Town was built in the 1950s; in addition to the building interior, visitors may also see the “Art in Bunker” exhibition dedicated to the censorship and art of 1960s and 1970s.
The Great Gunpowder Warehouse, built during the great Austrian reconstruction of the Fortress, today accommodates the Roman stone monuments, stelae, sarcophagi and altars collected throughout the years and brought from many different archeological sites.
The monuments belong to the antiquity (second half of the 1st century to the 4th century).
