The beginning of the event “Days of Belgrade”, which is traditionally held every year in the period between April 16th and April 19th, was announced today under the slogan “To Belgrade, with love”.
The flowers were laid at the Memorial for the Delivery of Keys on Kalemegdan by the President of the Assembly of the City of Belgrade, Mr. Nikola Nikodijevic, which was preceded by cannon fire and a special program.
The event “Days of Belgrade” is always held at the same time in April due to the two important events in the history of Belgrade – April 16th, 878, when the Slavic name Belgrade was first mentioned in a letter from Pope John VIII, and April 19th, 1867, when Prince Mihailo Obrenovic was presented with the keys of the city from the Turks, which made Belgrade a Serbian city once again.
The Memorial for the Delivery of Keys on Kalemegdan was set up in 1967 on the occasion of the centenary of this important event.
