Minerals and precious stones have always attracted attention. They are often given various magical properties. However, all their magical secrets are in fact in their beauty. They are not only magically beautiful. Unlike most other beautiful things – they are long lasting. And not only from the perspective of human life, but from the perspective of eternity. Agates from Fruška Gora are among the younger beauties chosen by Darko Timotić. They are only around twenty million years old. When something is so infinitely beautiful and lasts indefinitely – it evokes our endless enjoyment.

The task of man is to find and recognize this beauty. Not every stone will reveal its secrets so easily. Sometimes the human contribution in their discovery requires sawing with a diamond blade and the subsequent progressive grinding with ever finer abrasives until the polished jasper from Gornja Trepča shines with full brilliance. But even then, it is not over.

Each of us sees every stone differently. Darko Timotić has raised his vision to the level of art. He introduced us to the details. He led us to a beauty that we might have missed. Even now, everyone will see something different in the revealed details and everyone will give them their meaning. Everyone will read something personal into the stones.

In the hands of geologists, a camera is most often an analytical tool, in the field, in the laboratory. This time, this geologist used that tool as an artistic accessory. And very successfully, we might add.
