EUROPEAN HERITAGE DAYS AT THE BELGRADE FORTRESS

Blog

The traditional cooperation between the PE Belgrade Fortress and Music School Stanković will continue this September with a concert in honour of the European Heritage Days, which will be held on Wednesday, 15 September, starting at 1 p.m. The most talented students of the Jazz Department will open the European Heritage Days 2021, with a concert at the Music Pavilion in Kalemegdan Park, as organized by PE Belgrade Fortress, where, led by Professor Ivan Radivojević, our renowned jazz artist, they will perform jazz standards of the bebop and hard bop era and modern jazz compositions. On this occasion, the Music School Stanković will also mark 110 years of its existence in Belgrade, Serbia, and Europe.

A monograph entitled The Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan Park (with publications in English and Turkish) will be promoted before the concert. All visitors who buy one of these publications on this occasion will receive a gift in the form of a combined ticket for touring the five buildings of the Belgrade Fortress (Roman Well, Sahat Tower, Nebojša Tower, Military Bunker and Big Gunpowder Warehouse).

Since European Heritage Days 2021 celebrate Cultural Heritage for All – by holding this concert, MS Stanković will confirm its exceptional mission, that it has been continuously implementing in our region for over a century. Officially founded in 1911 and originating from the Musical Society Stanković constituted in 1881, during its long existence, Music School Stanković has continuously redefined the importance of cultural heritage for every individual in the musical art and pedagogy of this part of Europe – in a lavishly branched and more than impressive presence in Belgrade and beyond.

The very existence of a Jazz Department established more than a quarter of a century ago, in 1993, as the first of its kind in Southeast Europe, is proof that Music School Stanković has always considered, not only the rich past and musical legacy, but also the future of music education in this country.
