“These intimately individual explorations of artists which we can read on this exposition on the example of the Belgrade Fortress, result in lyrical atmosphere, authentic expression, and sincere wish to underline the past, yet preserve the dominant presence of the Fortress. The art works inspired by the Belgrade Fortress, created in the period from 1911 to 1996, show very high scope of many generations of Serbian artists, from Beta Vukanović to Čeda Vasić, and their works done in traditional painting techniques, such as pencil, ink, aquarelle, oil, and pastel.” – Jasna Markovic, from the exhibition catalogue.
