On April 16, 2021, under the slogan “Culture is the Winner”, the manifestation “Days of Belgrade” began in Belgrade.
The flowers were laid at the memorial on Kalemegdan by the President of the City Assembly, Nikola Nikodijevic, which was preceded by cannon fire and an accompanying event.

He said that with this event, we remember all the great people who, living and working in Belgrade, left an indelible mark in the history, culture and science not only of the Serbian capital, but also of the entire world.

The Days of Belgrade are held from April 16 to 19 due to two important events in the history of Belgrade – April 16, 878, when the Slavic name Belgrade was first mentioned in a letter from Pope John VIII, and April 19, 1867, when Prince Mihailo Obrenović received the keys of the city from the Turks, which made Belgrade a Serbian city again.

The memorial of Handing over the keys on Kalemegdan was erected in 1967 on the occasion of the centenary of this important event.
