Last night, the Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesić and the Ambassador of Greece to Serbia Yorgos Diacofotakis visited the Nebojša Tower, which was decorated with Serbian and Greek flags for Greek Independence Day.
In his address, Mr. Vesić observed: “As is our tradition, what our friends celebrate, we also celebrate. Today, our Greek friends are celebrating 200 years since the fight for their statehood and that is why the symbols of Belgrade; the bridges, the Palace of Albania, the fountain at Slavija and the House of the National Assembly are illuminated with the colours of the Greek flag. I am especially proud that the Nebojša Tower was lit up for the first time today. It was reconstructed 12 years ago, but it has never been lit up and tonight it is decorated with Serbian and Greek flags.”
“I am grateful to all of you from the bottom of my heart,” the ambassador replied with sincerity.
PE “Belgrade Fortress” had the honour of hosting such an important event and the emotional atmosphere was certainly amplified by the illuminated Nebojša Tower, which was built more than five centuries ago.
