After the finalization of the tender procedure, PC “Belgrade Fortress” entered into the Agreement on the Execution of Works, Reconstruction, Conservation and Restoration of the Gate of Charles VI, so the Contractor may commence the preparatory works on March 4, 2022.
Since it has been nearly fifty years since the last conservational interventions, the old edifice of the Gate of Charles VI is significantly changed, most of all in terms of the static stability of the structure itself and alarming condition of the stone façades, the latter partly being at the disintegration stage. The current condition of the Gate highlights the necessity of taking a comprehensive approach to the overall structure remediation.
Also, it is necessary to completely renew the stone sculptures of the central and side trophies on the main façade, as well as the missing segments, which can be done according to the preserved photographic documentation and analysis of the details of similar analog sculptures. In addition to this, the entire structure is to be equipped with waterproof insulation.
During the execution of works, it will occasionally be necessary to secure the access roads and redirect the visitor movements, which will be timely communicated to the public.
