Exhibition “Through the Danube region of Serbia with Felix Kanitz” was opened on Thursday, September 1, at 7pm at the promenade at Beton Hall as part of the DUNAVFEST, held at the Belgrade Fortress till September 11.

The exhibition was opened by the author of the exhibition, Đorđe Kostić PhD, Director of PE `Belgrade Fortress` Ivana Lučić Todosić MA, and Neda Jevremović from the National Museum in Belgrade.

Visitors will learn about the Serbian Danube region of the nineteenth century, the settlements and the common cultural heritage through selected drawings and quotations from the works of impartial traveler Felix Kanitz. Many Kanitz’s drawings, published in numerous publications, are today the only visual record of certain ancient buildings, folk customs and the people he met on his travels. Today, his works represent a valuable source of knowledge, from which each generation of scientists has drawn new strength for even deeper and more significant research and study of the cultural heritage of the area. Visitors of the exhibition will be able to find out how the Danube area looked like in the nineteenth century thanks to Kanitz’s texts, taken from the book “Serbia – Country and Population from the Roman period till the end of the nineteenth century”, the visual material that comes from the pen of the talented Felix Kanitz.

The exhibition was realized by PE `Belgrade Fortress`, the National Museum in Belgrade and Felix Kanitz Society, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society of the Republic of Serbia.
