On the old plans this gate is marked as Karanlik kapuso or Dark Gate, which fully corresponds to its appearance. While the present name is not settled, this gate was known under various names, for example Sava Gate, Sabac Gate, Bosnian and Dark Gate. It was built between the 1740th and 1760th, in the front of Sava Gate in the south of the access route towards the Fortress. Similarly Sava Gate, it was built as a passage through the bastion.

On both sides there are premises for the fortress guard. After the city surrendered to the Prince Mihailo in 1867th, the guard at the gate was Serbian and later Yugoslav army. The inscriptions that have been engraved to the cubes in the bottom zone of the gate, belong to them. The inscriptions are in Turkish – Arabic, then in Latin, from the period of Austrian occupation of 1739-1791, and in Cyrillic. In addition, there are carved symbols like the cross, menorah and sight the Janissaries detachment (crowd). The largest number of inscriptions, in fact, was engraved in Arabic script, one of the earliest is from 1747th, and the later one is from the 1797/1798.
