Belgrade Zoo, also known as the Garden of Good Hope, is located within the Belgrade Fortress, more precisely in Mali Kalemegdan.

Opened on 12th July 1936, Belgrade Zoo is the oldest and largest zoo in Serbia. During World War II, the zoo was bombed twice — in 1941 and in 1944 — during which it was severely damaged.

Today, the zoo covers about 7 hectares and has around 2,000 animals. With more than 400,000 visitors a year, Belgrade Zoo is also one of the most visited attractions in Belgrade.
