Sava Gate – 2009.

Blog

Parts of the Sava Gate, destroyed in the bombing in 1944, were restored in 2009. The works were funded by the City of Belgrade with about 46 million dinars. Archaeological research in this area was conducted in 2008- it was restored, tender documentation was prepared and a tender was announced.

Sava Gate used to be the southern gate of the town of Belgrade connecting the Lower Town with the Sava part of the town, that is Karađorđeva Street. When the rebels attacked Belgrade in 1806, they entered the town right through this gate, opened by Uzun Mirko and Ostoja Konda.
